Darkness… emptiness… potential. Here, under the sky with no moonlight, the flow pools in stillness. No fire heats the cauldron to simmer. No light draws us out nor sustains us in action. One cycle has ended with the emptying of the moon, and the next pools with the potential to begin. In darkness you rest, you breathe in possibility and await the pull of the flow.

But you are not separate from the flow. It dances in you and you dance in it. Like the Goddess stirs the cauldron of potential, like the moon stirs the waters, you can stir the flow. How? You ask.

You must ask the question for the cauldron to be stirred.

A bonfire is only a bonfire, until a question spoken turns it into a scrying flame. Tarot cards are just painted images until a question frees them to living wisdom. Runes are simply markings on wood until a question summons meaning from their etchings. It is the question that opens the door. It is the question that awakens possibility. It is the question that restores the flow.

You must ask the question for the cauldron to be stirred.

Choice

A subtle shift
like the moment
between inhale
and exhale
The deed indefinite
The effect palpable
The consequence
a mystery
yet to be known

In current western society we tend to think in the detail, in moments in time. We wake each morning to a “new day” and a “fresh start”, a day free from the trends and patterns of the day previous. We calculate the full moon to its precise moment of optimal fullness. Yet, in the sky above us the moon looks full for three days.

Even those three days of fullness are a part of a longer cycle. The full moon that we see above us tonight was born out of the dark moon that we witnessed a fortnight ago.  The moon has been swelling, filling, flowing to fullness and after tonight She will begin to wane and empty back to dark. It is an ancient, sacred rhythm with which the moon flows.

Find again the flow and let the flow carry you.

Everything dances with this flow. Consider a bonfire. The bonfire begins long before the actual lighting of the flame. The bonfire is in the gathering of the wood that will burn. It is also in the thought that initiates that gathering. So too it is in the sense of chill and awareness of the fading of the light that inspires that thought. After the flame, the bonfire lingers with the ashes that die and return to earth.

We can name these moments – chill, wood, bonfire, ashes – just as we can name the individual months in the year or the precise time of the full moon.  But to understand these moments, to engage and discover the Mystery in the experience of each moment, we must release into the flow.

Find again the flow and let the flow carry you.

Callanish
by Jennifer L. Jacoby

Come She called to me
from across the seas and sky
but I could not hear Her voice

Come She called to me
whispering offerings of love
I cried and wondered why

Come She called to me
in dreams of loves and lifetimes past
I awoke lost in the longing

Come the Stones called for Her
I called to Them in return
arriving They showed me Her

You came She smiled
Her love bathing me to the bone
I cried and realized I heard

Peace and long life… Jennifer
