The inward spiral… this is the path of waning, the gentle release back into darkness, the return to potential. Turning inward can feel like letting go. It can seem like being lost in a darkened forest or like a descent deep into the earth. Spiraling down through layer upon layer, walking through darkness by the light of soul, of faith, this is the path of the seeker. And this path shines with a promise: at the center, the light awaits the seeker.
The dance of the moon reflects this promise. For even as the light of the moon diminishes, even as it disappears from the sky leaving the moon to rest in darkness, three days later this light is reborn. So too the sun is reborn in its darkest moment, in the heart of the longest night, the night of the winter solstice.
For the seeker, the path spirals deep into the earth of self. Through the darkness of that earth the seeker walks, through layer upon layer of experience, through the caves of the inner landscape the seeker tracks the center. For like the earth, at the center burns a great fire, a sacred flame of Truth. To stand in the presence of this flame is to discover Truth. To touch this flame is to awaken to Self. To tend this flame is to know: at the center, the light awaits the seeker.
Deep in the belly
of blackened earth
life seems desolate
cold
foresworn
The pressure
drives consciousness inward
to the very depths
of your soul
Until you strike the match
rekindle the flame
of your soul
and awaken
renewed in the dawn
